Russell Brown launched food writing, photography and consultancy business Creative about Cuisine after a 20-year career cheffing at high quality restaurants culminating in his own Michelin-starred restaurant.
Russell didn’t arrive into catering until the age of 27 after running a fishing tackle business in Cornwall. Food had always been a big part of Russell’s life with his mother’s home cooking and the family farm shop in Truro.
Rather than take the college route, Russell took a job at the two-AA rosette Alverton Manor Hotel in Truro where he moved from commis chef to chef de partie before moving on to Percy’s Country Hotel, in Devon, and then getting his first job as a head chef at Yalbury Cottage hotel in Dorset. He then moved to the Horn of Plenty, in Devon, to work for Michelin-starred chef Peter Gorton before opening his own restaurant in 2003 with his wife Elena.
Together, the pair opened Sienna, in Dorchester, Dorset, where he won three AA rosettes and a Michelin star which he held for five years.
Russell now concentrates on food writing, photography and consultancy. He has written for The Caterer magazine and was recently finalist in the Pink Lady Food Photography competition 2017. He is currently writing a seasonal food book with co-author Jon Haley and still enjoys participating in cookery demonstrations at food festivals and guest chef nights.
