GourmetXperiences supports Hospitality Action
Hospitality Action is the trade charity offering a crucial lifeline to people of all ages, both working and retired, from the hospitality industry. Established in 1837, 2017 is a very special year for the charity as they turn 180 years old.
Whether the approach comes from a chef, house keeper, school cook or waiter, Hospitality Action will endeavour to provide support, whatever the difficulty. An extended illness can lead to a drop in pay, while other circumstances such as a relationship breakdown, bereavement or redundancy can also put an enormous strain on the household income.
The charity strives to keep its support relevant to the industry, so in addition to its long-running grants programme, it also offers help via its Employee Assistance Programme, alcohol and drugs seminars and a very popular befriending scheme for industry retirees.
Vikki (pictured) is just one of the people Hospitality Action has been able to support in recent times. Vikki has worked in hospitality since she left college yet the past 12 months have been incredibly tough for her as she left work to care for her mother who was dying of cancer. Soon after her mother’s passing Vikki was diagnosed with the disease herself. Unable to return to work and borrowing money from friends and family to keep up with her bills Vikki contacted Hospitality Action. The charity gave Vikki a grant to help with her general living costs as she faces more surgery and the long road to recovery.
