Swinton Cookery School is a relaxed, open demonstration kitchen housed in a converted Georgian stable wing adjacent to Swinton Park Hotel. Excellent for the preparation and skilful handling of great food and fine wine.
Set in 20,000 acres of idyllic countryside on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, Swinton Cookery School is renowned for making the most of local game and fresh produce. Using fruit, vegetables and herbs from its four-acre walled garden, alongside venison, rabbit and smoked trout from the Swinton Estate, you’ll learn how to cook sustainably through each season. The Location Swinton Cookery School is located within Swinton Park Estate in Ripon, North Yorkshire. The school sits adjacent to the magnificent Swinton Park Hotel – a luxury Grade II listed family owned estate, home to Earl and Countess of Swinton – it’s easy to combine your course with a well-deserved overnight break, if you choose, and a plethora of outdoor pursuits including foraging, fishing, and even staying at their Swinton Bivouac glamping site with luxury tree lodges and meadow yurts!
The Swinton Estate team, are passionate about using sustainable local produce throughout the four seasons. The four-acre walled garden behind the hotel is planted with fruit, vegetables and herbs, providing a ready source of fresh seasonal ingredients for the cookery school kitchen, alongside estate venison, rabbit, smoked trout and game, a few examples of the local ingredients sourced from the wider estate. The Cookery School runs a busy program of half day and full day hands-on, practical cookery classes throughout the year, all overseen by Head Chef Tutor Luke Palmer.
Courses can be either residential or non residential and are available for all ages and ability levels, including children’s cookery lessons.
From classic baking and Sunday roasts to Sushi and Thai, there’s a course to suit everyone. So if you are beginner with a keen interest or a professional, broadening their knowledge, join the team at Swinton and fall in love with cooking all over again.

Cookery School meets gourmet dining experience at its finest! Relax and watch as Chef Tutor Luke Palmer prepares a gourmet menu for you and your guests, talking you through each stage. Luke will bring the experience to life with an array of skills and tips, serving each course as it has been prepared for you.
Half Day Course and Stay
Enjoy a course at the Cookery School and then stay the evening and make it a complete experience. These include an overnight stay with Breakfast, and a Half Day Course in the Cookery School, subject to availability.
